Think Kindle is just for books with lots of text and the occasional interspersed image? Think again. In early April 2013, Amazon released a new free tool to indie authors and publishers called the Kindle Comic Creator. This tool makes it easy to turn comics, graphic novels, and manga into Kindle books.
The standalone application for Mac and Windows lets you import single or multi-page images stored in several popular formats. Authors can also control the language, page orientation, and page turn direction (to accommodate Japanese-style manga). Additionally , authors can select whether or not to use Kindle Panel View, which provides a clever guided navigation experience, expanding individual panels in sequence as readers progress through the story.
After completing the book, authors can preview the finished product using their desktop computer, or using a Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire, or Kindle Paperwhite. Published books can also be displayed on Kindle Keyboard, Kindle for iPad, Kindle for iPhone, and Kindle Android apps.
