Quiet and unassuming, the Pulitzer prize-winning novelist spoke about her decision in a statement released by her publisher, HarperCollins.

Released on July 8, 2014, the work quickly soared to the top of the best-seller charts. The rank on July 13, 2014 was #1 on Amazon and #2 on Kobo. With sales clearly buoyed by a discounted price ($3.95 on both Amazon and Kobo), many of the reviewers—based on their comments—were clearly revisiting the title after having originally read it 20 or 30 or even 40 years ago.
